Henry Review 2010
Today, Sunday 2 May 2010, at 2.30pm, Australia’s Commonwealth Treasurer, the Honorable Wayne Swan MP delivered on the Government’s undertaking and released the much anticipated "Australia’s Future Tax System Report" (AFTSR). More commonly known as the "Henry Review" (named after the Review Panel’s chairman Mr Ken Henry, Secretary to the Department of the Treasury), the AFTSR comes in at a little under the 1,000 pages mark, with 138 recommendations.
The Commonwealth Government today also released its response to the AFTSR, dealing with the list of recommendations in one of three ways:
- recommendations which will be implemented (although over an extended period);
- recommendations which will never be implemented;
- the remaining recommendations will be the subject of further consideration and consultation in what the Government describes as "a decade long process of reform."
